Imps vs Staffordshire Gents

A number of injuries did not hinder the Imps in their second game of the 2019 season.

The Captain, David Smith, won the toss and inserted the opposition. Felix Shears took the new ball alongside the Captain and bowled nicely, taking a couple of top-order wickets. James Lunn followed up his Bourton heroics from the previous week with 3-44 and the Imps were looking strong at lunch, having restricted the Staffordshire Gents to 104-6.

A partnership of 58 for the 8th wicket (including 56* by E Smith), alongside some very generous attempted declaration bowling from Williamson C helped the Gents up to 198, before the Captain mopped up the final couple of wickets.

The Imps' reply got off to the worst possible start with Matt James getting the best ball of the day first up and getting castled before the Vice Captain had even had time to feed the dog between innings. Fortunately for the Imps, the delivery was not repeated for the remainder of the chase. Chris Williamson scored a maiden Imps hundred, 107 off 103 balls, before still finding time to get caught on the boundary before the day was out. (What would Mr Prosser say??) Excellently supported by Matt Keyte (29), Ian Cherry (19) and James Lunn (29) the Imps knocked off the required total in 33.5 overs and won by 5 wickets.
