HISTORY

The Warwickshire Imps was founded in 1925 by Norman Impey. He captained the side from its inception to the beginning of the War. Impey would then become president of the Warwickshire Imps in the mid-1950s until his death in 1961.

The first meeting of the Warwickshire Imps Committee took place on 17th February 1925 where Impey was voted in as captain and AE Sherry was chosen as the Club’s first president. The original membership was 10/6 per annum and the Club played its first game on 14th May 1925 at Edgbaston

The Club’s objectives were decided by the first committee to be as follows:

“to link up the various clubs in the County of Warwickshire and the City of Birmingham in order to foster and promote amateur cricket and good fellowship among them, and for that purpose to arrange mid-week matches with prominent amateur organisations and fix tours from time to time in districts outside the county.”

With this objective in mind, the Warwickshire Imps held close ties to Warwickshire CCC for many years, with the Imps playing fixtures at the County Ground up until the 1980s. In fact the club’s first fixture was at Edgbaston on 13th May 1925 against Warwickshire Club & Ground

But the club began to grow again in the late 40s to the present day.

The Club has had 10 Captains over its history and 9 Presidents. Jack Hossell captained the club for 25 seasons between 1951 and 1975 and is the longest-serving Captain of the Club.
